Phoenix - A strange wonder in the desert
Installation Back drop: Painting - Image transfer techniques and acrylic paint on canvas Bottom: Clean, untreated stones; set of lights Front: Multi layers of hands cut from 3 mm thick clear acrylic sheet with a "henna" pattern made from tools suspended from the niche lintel by lit up clear nylon strings. The hands are lit up and cast shadows onto the back drop and the side walls of the niche. Statement A city has taken shape like Phoenix rising. It has been built on a wealth unearthed by early pioneers, who dug out oil and gas from underneath a sea of stones. I stand in awe when I imagine the hardships faced by those who made it possible – not only here but in many places were harsh conditions had to be overcome - and I want to salute and thank them.
